Parker’s injury leaves San Antonio thin in the backcourt.

He wasn’t a few years away. He wasn’t the next Dirk. He wasn’t even the next Uwe Blab. He played 172 games for four teams in four NBA seasons, averaging 2.9 points on 30.4 percent shooting. As Eastern European exports go, his success level ranks right around the Yugo.

The tendency of NBA-types to compare tall European players to Nowitzki has slowed over the years, but it has not dissipated entirely. Arizona’s Lauri Markkanen, likely a top-10 pick on Thursday, will get the full Dirk treatment, especially if he is chosen by the Mavericks.

“It’s a major trade-off with him, because offensively, at 7-feet tall, and I think he’s going to turn 20, his ability to shoot the ball is off the charts,” said ESPN draft analyst Fran Fraschilla. “He’s an absolutely 10-plus kid. People I know have just watched a workout earlier in the week, and they’ve raved about him. But the defensive issues are going to be prominent. But he is a kid, he cares. So the comparisons to Dirk are going to be unfair, but it’s going to be there.”

Parker, who has been a cornerstone in San Antonio’s lineup since 2001, is set to make close to $15.5 million next season. His current contract will then end in 2018.

Chris Paul poured gas on already enflamed rumors last week by stating he would consider San Antonio as a possible destination should he choose to leave the Clippers as a free agent Cheap Baseball Jerseys steelers_123this offseason.

Parker’s injury leaves San Antonio thin in the backcourt. Even though Gregg Popovich will likely add another young point guard in the this month’s draft, like he did with Dejounte Murray last year, the team may want to add another proven veteran to lead the offense.

They’ll continue to do so in the coming years.

Young stars blossomed, like Giannis Antetokounmpo in Milwaukee, Karl-Anthony Towns in Minnesota, Nikola Jokic in Denver, Joel Embiid in Philadelphia, Rudy Gobert in Utah and Devin Booker in Phoenix. There were compelling storylines, from Westbrook’s triple-double chase to Mike Mike D’Antoni’s splashy return to coaching to the ongoing Phil Jackson-Carmelo Anthony turmoil in New York to the shaky future of the Clippers to the ascent (and possibly intertwined futures) of the Celtics and the Jazz.

The Warriors loomed over all stories, of course. They’ll continue to do so in the coming years. But that does not mean there isn’t a lot worth watching in this league, in the short and long terms.

For one, moving away from Fultz and toward Jackson signals that the Celtics are intending to keep Isaiah Thomas, a free agent next summer, for the long term. Maybe even shooting guard Avery Bradley, too.

But more interesting is how the potential acquisition of a Cheap Authentic Hockey Jerseys steelers_129future first-rounder from the Sixers would affect the Celtics’ offseason. The Sixers have their own pick and the Lakers’ pick next year, and both figure to have a good chance of winding up in the lottery. The Celtics have Brooklyn’s pick, plus their own, in next year’s draft. The Nets were the league’s worst team last season and should not be much better next season.

If Ainge comes out of the 2017 draft with, potentially, two lottery picks in 2018, plus Jackson and an acre of cap space, the feeling around the league is that he will be looking to sign a top-tier free agent this summer and leverage those picks in a trade for another major piece.

Jeff Samardzija crushes longest HR by a pitcher in Statcast era

Apparently Giants starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija has been taking batting advice from teammate Madison Bumgarner.

Coors Field helps any player at the plate but Samardzija demolished a fastball from Rockies’ right-hander Antonio Senzatela over the right-center field wall for his third career home run.

Not only did he add a bat flip and yell as he crossed home plate but’s Statcast saw the ball go 446 feet, the longest home run hit by a pitcher in the Statcast era, which started in 2015.

Unfortunately for Samardzija, he was saddled with the loss Friday on the mound after allowing eight runs on 11 hits in six innings of work.

The Cavaliers are in hot pursuit of Paul George, even if he’d only spend one year in Cleveland as a rental, and the Nuggets could be the third team that makes the trade possible, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein and Chris Haynes. A possible three-team trade could result in George in Cleveland and Kevin Love in Denver, Stein reported. One version of the trade includes Kenneth Faried being traded to the Cavaliers, according to Haynes.

Denver also has young assets in guards Gary Harris, Emmauel Mudiay and Jamal Murray, who could potentially make the three-team trade possible.

Chris Paul will become an unrestricted free agent after opting out of his Blue Jays Cheap Jerseys contract with the Clippers and there’s a chance he leaves Los Angeles for another team in the Western Conference. Namely, the Rockets.

ESPN’s Chris Haynes appeared on SportsCenter on Saturday and his top storyline Best Place For Cheap Jerseys was Paul potentially signing with Houston. The Rockets have a serious chance of luring Chris Paul away, Haynes said.
